When to Replace Your Timing Belt
Prevention is the only cure for timing failure. Replace your belt if you observe:
The system has reached 2,000 operating hours since the last belt replacement.
The belt has been installed for more than 5 years, even if operating hours are low.
If an oil leak is found near the timing cover, the belt must be replaced as oil softens the rubber compounds.
If the timing cover is removed and any "fuzzing" or fraying is seen on the belt edges.
