Great choice for off-grid applications!

If you are reading this, you are probably looking for a gas/propane heat source that doesn't require electricity. In my opinion, you won't do better than a Martin. This has been my second purchase of a Martin direct-vent heater. I have a smaller unit in guest bunkie, and this 20,000 BTU model is heating a 350 sq. ft. cabin. These are easy to install and look pretty nice, but most importantly are safe, with their own combustion intake and exhaust. My first unit has been in service for a few years so far with no issues.

I think it's worth the extra cost to get the glass front version. This gives you something nice to look at while sitting around the heater, but it it's also nice to be able to see what the heater is doing: high flame, low flame, etc. I find this makes it easier to get thermostat adjusted. I think you get a little extra radiant heat from the window too.

The thermostat is not perfect, but does work very well. I find that minor adjustments are needed based on outdoor temps, but for the most part, you can find a spot you like and not touch it again all day.

Obviously, these heaters do not include a fan, and it might help to have a fan in your space to move warm air around, but there's enough heat coming off to set up natural convection that gets heat into all corners.

I do wish these heaters came in different colour options, but they look nice and are low-profile enough to be unobtrusive. The push button for the pilot light is kind of a pain because it's recessed into the top, but this is hardly a big deal. These heaters do make some noise when running, but just some slight clicking/pinging as they heat and cool and it's not bothersome at all.

Overall, I think Martin direct-vent heaters a good value, and a great choice for many applications, especially where full-time electricity is not available.

We bought this heater/furnace for our garage loft bunkie. It puts out a lot of heat and is reliable. Good purchase. I’m happy.

Martin direct vent propane 20,000 btu off grid heater

So far I have been using this heater for almost two weeks. I had a propane tech install it and I’m living off grid with very little Insulation this year. It’s keeping me nice and toasty when it’s -18 and I have it set between medium and low which means I have lots of room for more heat!!!! It’s quiet too!!!
